MetaMUI Crypto Primitives - Comprehensive Implementation Guide

Side-channel claim limit. Nothing on this page claims constant-time behaviour or side-channel resistance for any target: the side-channel harness covers nothing (finding A48) and no measurement exists. The Rust and C cores are designed for constant time and unmeasured; managed runtimes (JIT, GC, bounds checks) make no timing claim. Where this page names constant-time or side-channel techniques, in prose or in code, they are design intent or recommendations, not measured properties.

Security Best Practices

  1. Memory Security
    • Always clear sensitive data after use
    • Use secure memory allocation where available
    • Implement proper zeroization
  2. Timing Attack Prevention
    • Use constant-time operations for all cryptographic computations
    • Avoid data-dependent branches
    • Implement proper masking techniques
  3. Error Handling
    • Never expose sensitive information in error messages
    • Use consistent error codes across platforms
    • Implement proper validation for all inputs
  4. Cross-Platform Consistency
    • Ensure identical behavior across all platforms
    • Use comprehensive test vectors
    • Validate against reference implementations

Platform-Specific Guidelines

Python

# Always use secure memory clearing
from ..utilities.secure_clear import SecureClear

# Clear sensitive data
SecureClear.clear(sensitive_buffer)

# Use shared utilities for consistency
from ..utilities.encoding.hex import encode as hex_encode

Rust

// Use zeroize for sensitive data
use zeroize::Zeroize;

// Implement Drop for automatic clearing
impl Drop for SensitiveData {
    fn drop(&mut self) {
        self.data.zeroize();
    }
}

TypeScript

// Use secureClear from crypto-core
import { secureClear } from '@metamui/crypto-core';

// Clear sensitive buffers
secureClear(sensitiveBuffer);

Swift

// Use deinit for automatic clearing
deinit {
    // Clear sensitive data
    sensitiveData.withUnsafeMutableBytes { ptr in
        ptr.initializeMemory(as: UInt8.self, repeating: 0)
    }
}

WASM

// Use zeroize and constant-time operations
use zeroize::Zeroize;
use crate::crypto_utilities::wasm_opt::*;

// Implement constant-time operations
let result = ct_select(condition, a, b);

// Use WASM-specific optimizations
#[cfg(target_arch = "wasm32")]
use crate::crypto_utilities::wasm_opt::WasmOpt;
